And received its calm

The photographs were taken at Kytäjä-Usmi outdoor are in Hyvinkää on December 28th.

The weather forecast promises 20 cm of snow for tomorrow. Traffic conditions won't be great. I'm planning to commute by car and train instead of bicycle.

Look how sweet life has become

The photographs were taken at Kytäjä-Usmi outdoor are in Hyvinkää on December 28th.

I commuted by bicycle today. There was snow and ice on the road, but it was not bad with the studded winter tires. The depth of snow is now 5 cm, so the landscape looks like winter.

With her would I go

The photographs were taken on December 27th.

Today I commuted by car and train, because of meetings. Tomorrow I'm planning to commute by bicycle. And I have a dentist's appointment. I hope it goes well.

It chills my life, but wittily

We practiced together

The photographs were taken on December 27th.

This morning I walked 1 1/2 hours, going to the post office to fetch a package containing winter gloves for riding the bicycle. The "lobster style" gloves (aka three-finger gloves) were size XXL, and my hands did fit inside, but just barely, there wasn't much extra room. This was as I expected, there never seem to be large enough gloves.

I do envy one thing about Donald Trump: his small hands.

A better bed than mine?

The photographs were taken at Oittaa on December 26th.

Almost all snow has melted away. There was a little bit of ice left on the road in the morning, so the studded winter tires were useful when commuting by bicycle. So far this year I have got 334 km riding the bicycle.

He led me through his gardens fair

The photograph was taken at Odilampi on December 25th.

Today we got rain and warm weather. The depth of snow went from 21 cm to 4 cm. I didn't commute by bicycle, using car and train instead. Tomorrow seems to be a good day for riding the bicycle, even though the roads may be quite muddy.

Walks in a world of wilderness

The photograph was taken at Odilampi lake on December 25th.

We got 10 cm of wet snow today. I commuted by car and train, not by bicycle.

If they want to pull they should pull at their own pullables

The photographs were taken at Juvanmalmi industrial area on December 23rd.

It was cold this morning, -12 °C, but I didn't get too cold while commuting by bicycle. The new back tire is narrower than the old one, with just 106 studs instead of 240, but it has been good enough. In some places there has been ice underneath the snow on the street, and it has been rather slippery, but I haven't fallen yet.

But now it makes my cheek turn pale

The photographs were taken on December 17th.

I commuted by bicycle today and got over two hours of exercise. The temperature was -7 °C in the morning and -8 °C in the afternoon. For tomorrow morning the weather forecast promises -12 °C.

Walks in a world of wilderness

The photographs were taken on December 16th in Petikko.

The weather forecast promises rather warm weather in the middle of next week, which may mean that the snow we got will melt away. But Monday and Tuesday will be cold, down to -15 °C.

And the song of the wise

The photographs were taken on December 14th.

This morning I walked in a snow-covered forest. Sunrise was at 9:02, so it wasn't dark. Length of day is 7 hours, which feels like a milestone towards spring.

The beauty coming and the beauty gone

The photographs were taken in Petikko on December 10th.

I commuted by bicycle today, and it took a bit over an hour to ride to work, and the same time for the ride back home. In the morning some of the road was difficult to ride because of the snow, but in the afternoon the road was already in quite good shape. So far this year I have got 233 km riding the bicycle.

Then can I drown an eye

The photographs were taken on December 9th.

Depth of snow is now 21 cm, and it feels like winter. I didn't commute by bicycle today, using the train instead. The weather forecast promises a little bit of new snow for tomorrow, but I'm planning to commute by bicycle anyway, hoping that the paths are okay for riding the bicycle.

I have cleared this space for you, for you, for you

The photograph was taken on December 9th.

This afternoon it started to snow, and there was 4 cm of snow on the ground when I arrived home. It looks like winter.

My old lobster-style winter gloves don't keep the hands warm any more. They are over fours years old, so I guess that was to be expected. I ordered a new pair, of different type, size XXL, and I hope they fit. I don't understand the sizing of gloves, it seems that they are always smaller than they should be.

So far this year I have got 200 km riding the bicycle.

Or should I say a dream

The photograph was taken on December 9th.

The weather has been cold, especially because of strong south wind from the sea which makes -7 °C feel much colder. I have been commuting by bicycle through the central park in Helsinki. Later this week we may get 10 cm of snow, and that may cause some difficulties for the commute.

My body is powdery white and round

The photographs were taken in Vaakkoi on December 6th.

There was 16 hours of sunshine at Helsinki-Vantaa airport in December, 2017, and there were several places in Finland where the sun was always hidden behind clouds in daytime. A dark month indeed.

Don’t worry about the environment

The photographs were taken in Vaakkoi on December 6th.

I got over 12 hours of exercise this week. I should take a rest day, but on the other hand the weather seems to be excellent for commuting by bicycle, at least until Thursday.

Saturday, January 13, 2018

How shall I lure thee to my haunts forlorn!

The photographs were taken in Vaakkoi on December 6th.

In six day I have got 11 hours of exercise, half of it riding the bicycle and half walking. The length of day is 45 minutes longer than it was at the shortest, which feels good, even though it is still quite dark in the morning.

Speak, and my eyes failed

The photograph was taken on December 5th.

Today I commuted by bicycle through the central park in Helsinki, which is nice because there are few people and no traffic lights. We had -6 °C in the morning and -3 °C in the afternoon.

We will focus our attention on this gesture of walking

The photographs were taken on December 5th.

I commuted by bicycle today, riding through the central park in Helsinki. In the morning the temperature was -7 °C, in the afternoon -2 °C. I was wearing lobster-style gloves, but in the morning my hands got a bit cold. It may be that the gloves are starting to lose some of their insulating properties.

With some regard to what is just and right

The photograph was taken on December 5th. The handheld exposure was 1 second, and there is some blur, but it is not bad.

It seems that cold and dry weather will continue until next weekend. That is fine, even though it would be nice to have a little bit of snow to make the landscape less dark.

Just as no one can point to the source

The photographs were taken on December 4th at Pitkäkoski rapids by Vantaanjoki river in Helsinki.

I commuted by bicycle today. Because of the cold weather it was once again nice to ride across the central park in Helsinki. The paths were frozen solid, no mud at all. There was slippery ice in only some isolated spots.

During the last two weeks I did some long walks on hard surfaces using my hunting boots, and that was a mistake. My left heel has been hurting. Riding the bicycle is good exercise because it doesn't stress the heel at all. Thus the heel should be healing in no time.

Reminding myself, all ends with what effects it will have

The photographs were taken on December 4th at the Haltiala nature protection area north of Paloheinä in Helsinki.

The weather is now rather like winter, temperature at -2 °C, and some sunshine to be expected during the day. There is even a little bit of snow in some places. I'm planning to go for a long walk in Sipoonkorpi national park.

Who is this rumpled lookalike who wears

The photographs were taken on December 4th at Paloheinä in Helsinki. While walking along the paths I got to 15 meters distance of two white-tailed deer, thanks to the meandering paths, but the photographs were blurry because it was so dark.
