Between the pages of a book

The photographs were taken on May 13th.

In May I have ridden 584 km on the bicycle, and this year 2103 km. This morning I had a look at the clock of the cycle computer, and noted that the ride through the central park in Helsinki takes only nine minutes, even though it feels longer. Maybe it is the silence, or the novelty, such as seeing horses on the way.

And still be dear to sorrow and to love!

The photographs were taken on May 11th and 13th.

It's getting to be warm, 25 °C in the afternoon. I have now a favourite route through the central park in Helsinki, and it is great indeed to commute by bicycle through a forest in the center of the city, far from noisy streets.

As I will wait

The photographs were taken on May 8th.

This morning I walked around lake Suolikas, and it took 2 1/2 hours. I remembered to take the camera with me, but forgot the mosquito repellent, and thus I got bitten. I met one person and three dogs.

Or form some image of his cruel fair

The photographs were taken on May 8th.

This morning I walked for over two hours in Nuuksio, starting from lake Suolikas and circling around four lakes: Lummukas, Syvä-Antias, Iso-Antias and Levo-Antias. I forgot to take the LX100 with me. There were a couple of times sights I really would have liked to try to capture in a photograph. There are a lot of flowers in bloom, and the foliage is fresh and green. On the other hand, it was faster to walk when I didn't need to stop to take photographs.

I noticed that I was hearing more than when I'm carrying a camera. It may be that when one is carrying a camera the attention is focused on seeing, and other senses are not so much used.

Nor could we turn our faces toward

The photographs were taken on May 8th.

Today I rode the bicycle through the central park in Helsinki, and realized that there are horses to be seen.

Try looking away

The photographs were taken on May 7th at Myllyjärvi south of Luukki.

Late this afternoon it started to rain, and stripes of yellow pollen were to be seen floating on top of water. The air quality should be much better tomorrow.

I bought a new bicycle helmet to replace the old one, a Limar 575, which was eight years old. The new one is a Limar 757, which is much lighter than the old one, and it fits even better. I bought the helmet on the net, trusting that if the old Limar helmet fits me, so should the new one, even though one should always try a helmet before buying.

I have been commuting by bicycle through the central park in Helsinki. This is a luxury, riding through a forest in the middle of a city. The route is a bit longer, but that doesn't matter. There are lots of paths criss-crossing the park, and lots of possibilities which route to take. I may have repeated the same route twice, but I'm not quite sure.

Do you pour the liquid light

The photographs were taken at Myllyjärvi, south of Luukki, on May 7th.

Today was a warm day, and lots of dust in the air. My throat got sore. For tomorrow afternoon the weather forecast promises rain, which is good.

I cannot see what flowers are at my feet

The photographs were taken on May 6th in Nuuksio.

Today I commuted by bicycle, and once again I rode through the central park in Helsinki. So far I have never taken the same route.

But I, who daily craving

The photographs were taken in Nuuksio on May 6th. I visited 12 lakes, two of them several times.

I have changed the route of the daily commute by bicycle. I'm now riding through the central park in Helsinki. This way I avoid three sets of traffic lights, which is much better even though the route is a bit longer. There are lots of small paths in the park, and so far I haven't used the same route twice.

Song-wing

The photographs were taken on May 5th at Sipoonkorpi.

Several mornings this week when I have gone to fetch the newspaper, there has been a thrush nightingale (Luscinia luscinia) in the garden, singing loudly. A couple of times I have got to 2-3 meter distance of the bird before it has changed location. Spring is quite advanced, Syringa is already in bloom.

Often it took

The photographs were taken in Sipoonkorpi National Park on May 5th.

This morning I walked for almost three hours in Sipoonkorpi, and I managed to get a little bit lost. I found new places to explore, such places where there were moose and deer tracks but no wide paths of humans.

I got bitten while walking across swamps. Mosquito season has started.

The smallest flame of spring

The photographs were taken at Sipoonkorpi National Park on May 5th.

I commuted by bicycle every day this week. So far this year I have got 1905 km riding the bicycle, and in May 386 km.

Yesterday I looked into the cycle computer, which had stopped showing speed. The only thing that changed in the display was the time. I looked into the contacts, and the location of the sensor. Finally I changed the battery and realized it was "best before January 2016". I had another similar battery, and now the cycle computer works once again. I have lost the user guide, but it was found on the net (search for "Union 10 cycle computer"), and thus I was able to set the time, which was running 19 minutes too early. The device cost something like 15 euro, and that was 11 years ago. I must admit I'm a bit surprised that it has worked so well for so long.

To think I used to be so good at going to pieces

The photographs were taken on May 1st in Vaakkoi.

I have been pondering what to do with the dust problem of the LX100. I have been coping reasonably well, mostly by using the Retouch tool in Aperture to hide the blemishes generated by dust inside the lens unit of the camera.

Also, I have been looking at the available camera models, such as Panasonic GX8 and GX80, Olympus OM-D E-M5 and OM-D E-M10, and possible lens combinations. However, every time I have realized that the LX100 fits my requirements much better than any other choice.

Of the available compact cameras the result is the same: the LX100 is the best for me. Excellent controls (incl. aspect ratio switch), bright 24-70 mm equiv. lens with reasonable macro capability, big enough sensor (for bokeh...), etc. And the camera is small and light enough to carry in hand on long walks. The only problem is the durability of the camera after 100,000 photographs taken, and the dust issue.

If I would need a camera right now, I would buy an LX100. I'll try to cope with my "old" LX100 as long as it lasts, and perhaps the LX200 will become available when I need a replacement. Any other camera model that is available misses the mark.
